PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Nutcrackers in the form of wooden carvings of a soldier, knight, king, or other profession have existed since at least the 15th century. Originally you could insert a nut in the big-toothed mouth, press down the lever on the back and thereby crack the nut. Modern nutcrackers in this style serve mostly as Christmas decorationpredominantly in the USA and Germany.

As a nutcracking device it became really popular in the early nineteenth century, when the German writer Ernst Hoffman made one the hero of his fairy tale "Nussknacker und Mausekönig" ("Nutcracker and Mouse King") in 1816. The Russian composer Tchaikovsky adapted Hoffman's story into a ballet in 1891: The Nutcracker. The rest is history as they say.
